IN CONVERSATION WITH CALM

Calm is leading a movement against suicide - offering life saving services, provoking national conversation, and brining people together to reject living miserably. ❤️ CALM’s free and anonymous helpline and webchat are open every day, 5pm-midnight, where trained staff are on hand to offer practical support for anyone who needs it. Last year, the CALM directly prevented 675 suicides.

We sit down and chat with Hannah, Sam and Tom from CALM to talk about their latest campaign collection with Print Social. Profits from this range went towards providing CALM’s life-saving services.

Q: Hi Hannah, Sam and Tom. We are so pleased to see CALM’s T-shirt collection went off to print at the end of last year. It was such a huge success for you guys! Are you pleased with how it went?
Hannah:
We are absolutely chuffed with the campaigns. Our supporters were really pleased with them too and it was a lot of fun working with CALM volunteers to get the promo shots.

Q: How come you’ve picked Print Social as a platform to use to raise funds?
Hannah: We wanted a way to produce garments for our supporters without a huge environmental impact, putting unnecessary stress on the success of a campaign and the potential of lots of wasted stock. The print social team have been so helpful throughout the whole process too and there is no question too stupid (thanks again!). We also loved the customisation possible on the site that was also simple to use.

Q: Is this CALM’s first time launching their own clothing range?
Hannah: It's actually our second time. Print social gives us the freedom to be reactive to campaigns so we decided to launch one just in time for Christmas. Watch this space for more designs to come.

Q: We are really loving the artwork for the t-shirts. How did you and the creative team at CALM manage to come up with the ideas for the art work? Do any of them symbolise anything at all?
Tom:
It was a very collaborative process between me and Sam. We worked quite quickly and knocked out loads of different designs. After producing a large body of ideas, we reviewed the designs and whittled it down to the final five designs. Our process in whittling down the options was making sure the designs appealed to all the age ranges of our supporters. We wanted to make sure all our supporters in the CALM family had some fresh garms to wear!

Q: Do you have a particular favourite t-shirt design?
Tom:
My favourite design is the multi-coloured hand drawn type illustration design (not just because I designed it). One of my favourite designers is Braulio Amado and this was my attempt at designing a t-shirt that he would be proud of. I also have a child-like love of lots of bright colours in designs, hence why this is my favourite of the t-shirts.

Q: What’s next for CALM? Will there be any reruns of the campaigns at all?

Sam: We are currently planning some really exciting campaigns and brand collaborations for this year so hope to have some new designs real soon.
